In 1974 I left teaching and entered the world of Higher Education. This was not a good move as I was plunged into the reorganisation of H.E. with its mergers and take overs as Colleges of Education became Polytechnics and then were translated overnight, like Bottom the Weaver, into Universities. What I learned about in those Groves of Academe was politics, at micro and macro level when ’sauve qui peut’ was the order of the day. However by sheer luck I was rescued by a wily New Zealander and sent on education consultancies round the world. An amazing life!
