W artykule dokonano przeglądu dynamiki wzrostu przewozów ładunków wzdłuż Północnej Drogi Morskiej w latach 2014-2020 oraz struktury importu-eksportu i żeglugi bliskiego zasięgu w 2020 roku. Stwierdza się, że region arktyczny posiada dużą ilość zasobów naturalnych, a stopień ich rozwoju jest niski, co nadaje regionowi arktycznemu ogromne znaczenie strategiczne. Analizowana jest baza surowcowa dla rozwoju produkcji skroplonego gazu ziemnego. Stwierdza się, że istnieje korelacja pomiędzy podażą zredukowanego gazu ziemnego a stopniem rozwoju Północnej Drogi Morskiej. Północna Droga Morska jest częścią Północno-Wschodniego Szlaku Morskiego Arktyki, którego rozwój jest podstawą i kluczowym projektem współpracy rosyjsko-chińskiej w budowie 'Lodowego Jedwabnego Szlaku'. Wspólna rosyjsko-chińska budowa 'lodowego jedwabnego szlaku' jest kontynuacją i ważnym uzupełnieniem chińskiej inicjatywy 'Jeden pas, jeden szlak' w odniesieniu do Arktyki. Zasady przewodnie oparte na szacunku i współpracy wzmacniają budowę infrastruktury Północnej Drogi Morskiej, wspierają rozwój energetyki, ochronę środowiska, rozwój handlu i transportu morskiego.
