L’obiettivo principale del libro è quello di trovare strumenti di supporto alla raccomandazione dei fertilizzanti, al fine di ottenere un raccolto di qualità e di ridurre il contenuto di fertilizzanti da applicare con la conseguente riduzione dei costi e, naturalmente, tenendo sempre conto del rispetto dell’ambiente. La prima si basa sull’analisi dei bilanci dell’azoto, che è l’elemento nutritivo più importante nella coltivazione del cavolfiore, utilizzando diverse dosi di fertilizzante azotato per osservare il comportamento della coltura. L’altra parte del libro, in cui sono stati ottenuti diversi modelli matematici, si riferisce all’uso di sensori. In questo caso, si tratta di sensori di riflettanza, che agiscono come un 'canale di comunicazione' con le piante, permettendoci di capire cosa succede al loro interno in modo non invasivo. I risultati ottenuti in questo studio evidenziano, ancora una volta, l’importanza del lavoro su base agronomica attraverso lo studio del sistema suolo-pianta e l’incorporazione di nuove tecnologie in agricoltura.
