Digitalization of AVEC and financial inclusion of rural women

In Sub-Saharan Africa, women’s access to conventional financial services remains a challenge, despite the efforts made by governments. Côte d’Ivoire, is not on the sidelines of these challenges related to women’s bancarization and financial inclusion. Despite the government’s efforts from 2017-2021, '...the financial inclusion rate increased by 10 percentage points reaching 51% in 2021 compared to 41% in 2017. In 2017, there was a financial inclusion rate of 47% for men compared with 36% for women, with a gap of 11 percentage points between the two sexes. In 2021, the financial inclusion rate has risen to 64% for men versus 37% for women, a gap that has widened to 27 percentage points... '*. The situation of women has not improved compared to men. What’s more, poverty among women is increasing in rural and peri-urban areas, with a rate of around 75%. This 'feminization of poverty' is due to a number of factors, including women’s limited access to resources, education and employment, as well as the prevalence of gender-based violence and inequalities.
