O objetivo do presente trabalho de pesquisa foi formular e avaliar os comprimidos de matriz de liberação sustentada de fenilpropanolaminaHCl, a fim de melhorar a adesão dos pacientes e reduzir o efeito adverso pela redução dafreqüência dedosagem. A ausência deinteração entre a droga e os excipientes propostos foi confirmada pela espectroscopia de IR e DSC. Oscomprimidos dematrizforamformulados pela técnica de granulação úmida utilizando polímeros hidrofílicos, hidrofóbicos e cerosos, isoladamente ou emcombinação. Estudos iniciais indicaram que o uso de CE e HPMC sozinhos não foram úteis pararetardar com sucesso a liberação, mas a combinação de ambos retardou a liberação até 8hrs. Aadiçãopósgranular e o revestimento de CE contribuiu significativamente para retardar a liberação do medicamento.Os grânulos foram avaliados quanto à densidade aparente, densidade batida, índice de Carr, proporção de Hausner e ângulo de repouso. Os comprimidos preparados foram avaliados quanto à espessura, dureza, percentagem de friabilidade e conteúdo do fármaco. Todos osresultados obtidos foram considerados satisfatórios. Aformulaçãofinalcom um núcleo hidrofílico com uma camada hidrofóbica foi bem sucedida em prolongar aliberação da droga por um período de 10hrs.
