È stato condotto uno studio in vitro per valutare la stabilità dimensionale in funzione del tempo di quattro materiali di registrazione interocclusale (cera per registrazione del morso, polietere, PVS e ZOE). Un moncone in acciaio inossidabile, realizzato secondo la specifica ADA n. 19 modificata, è stato caricato con diversi materiali di registrazione interocclusale. Questi materiali sono stati separati dalla matrice 3 minuti dopo il rispettivo tempo di indurimento, ottenendo dischi di diametro standard con due linee parallele e tre linee perpendicolari sulla superficie, a diversi intervalli di tempo: 1 ora, 24, 48 e 72 ore. Queste linee sono state osservate al microscopio mobile (magnus) e classificate in base a criteri di lunghezza per scoprire la stabilità dimensionale del materiale. La distanza tra le due linee parallele è stata misurata a diversi intervalli di tempo per determinare la stabilità dimensionale del materiale. Il risultato del confronto ha mostrato che il polietere ha presentato le minori variazioni lineari di tutti i materiali testati, a tutti gli intervalli di tempo, seguito rispettivamente da PVS e Aluwax, mentre ZOE è il meno stabile.
