Practice to Mastery: AP® European History Workbook is a source-based practice book for students preparing for the AP® European History Exam or taking a first college survey of modern European history. It contains 885 questions-805 multiple choice, 57 short answer, 19 long essays, and 4 document-based questions-organized to follow the nine units of the College Board’s Course and Exam Description, from the Renaissance and the age of exploration to the Cold War and contemporary Europe.AP® European History is an exam about sources, and so is this book. Every multiple-choice question belongs to a set of three or four questions built around a single source: a primary document, a historian’s interpretation, a table, a graph, a map, or a description of a work of art. Students learn to do what the exam asks: identify an author’s argument, place a document in its historical situation, connect developments across periods, and decide which evidence would support or challenge a claim. Each unit opens with a list of the topics it covers and then moves from Easy to Medium to Hard questions, so students can see exactly where their understanding breaks down. Two short-answer practice sets per unit follow the shape of the exam’s short-answer section-a secondary source, a primary source, and a non-text source-and two long-essay prompts per unit practice comparison, causation, and continuity and change. Every multiple-choice question has an explanation that teaches the history behind the right answer, and every written question has a point-by-point scoring guide with examples of responses that earn credit.Because document-based questions draw on more than one unit, the book gives them a section of their own: three full DBQs, one in each major period band (1450-1648, 1648-1815, and 1815-present), each with seven documents and a complete seven-point scoring guide covering thesis, contextualization, use of documents, outside evidence, sourcing, and complex understanding. The book ends with a full-length practice examination-55 multiple-choice questions, three short-answer questions, a document-based question, and a long essay-with a complete answer key, explanations, scoring guides, and a score-estimate table. None of its questions appears elsewhere in the book.Primary sources are real public-domain documents, quoted from public-domain translations or translated anew, and every source carries a citation. Secondary passages are original interpretations written for this book. All figures and maps were drawn for the book and are designed to be read in black and white.Use it alongside the course, unit by unit, or as focused preparation in the final months before the exam. For a season of timed practice, pair it with the companion volume, Practice to Mastery: AP® European History Practice Exams, which contains twelve more full-length examinations with no question repeated from this workbook.AP® and Advanced Placement® are registered trademarks of the College Board, which was not involved in the production of, and does not endorse, this product.
