D’jord’ Shimon
For the first time an attempt has been made to write a political economy of Albania by examining, in relation to modernity, the change of social formations within its political and economic history. Special attention is devoted to the period after gaining independence from Ottoman Turkey. In its context, it shows the characteristic features of the feudal-bourgeois system in 1912-1939, the national liberation struggle of the Albanian people against fascist occupation in 1939-1944, the problems of socialist construction in 1944-1990 and the subsequent transition to market relations. The main econometric study, using a database compiled by the author for the 70 years between 1950 and 2020, was based on an endogenous Caldorov-type growth model with an embedded mechanism of technological progress, which takes into account both physical and human capital and time as an event space of creative economic activity. This allowed the author, in particular, to compare the total factor efficiency of the Albanian economy with the world level.
