Os polimorfismos de nucleotídeos únicos (SNPs) mais frequentes do gene MDR1 (nos exões 12, 21 e 26) foram relatados como contribuindo para a resistência às drogas em muitos tumores. Os principais objectivos deste estudo foram estabelecer as ferramentas viáveis para o rastreio destes três polimorfismos mais frequentes e investigar a distribuição destes polimorfismos em doentes malaio leucémicos. Foram recolhidas amostras de ADN de doentes malaio diagnosticados como leucemia, tendo sido submetidos a análises dHPLC e RFLP. Dos resultados, 25 (25,7%) dos doentes mostraram mutação heterozigótica, 7 (6,7%) do tipo selvagem, enquanto 2 (1,9%) mostraram mutação homozigótica.
