As suas sementes, que são consumidas por certas tribos na República Democrática do Congo, são ricas em lípidos e proteínas de origem vegetal e produzem óleos que satisfazem os critérios de boa qualidade nutricional. Também contêm elementos minerais necessários para o bom funcionamento do organismo. Os óleos prensados são mais resistentes à oxidação causada pelo ar do que os obtidos por extracção com solventes, graças aos compostos menores contidos na sua parte insaponificável. Contêm ácidos gordos insaturados como oléico, linoleico e ácido linolénico, que devem ser incluídos na dieta, pois são essenciais para o bom funcionamento metabólico do organismo.
