Foi desenvolvido um novo tipo de interferómetro que utiliza o princípio da divisão mecânica do feixe. Com a sua ajuda, foi observada experimentalmente a constante de tempo do comprimento de onda do feixe laser, que não depende da velocidade do gerador ou do espelho que se move ao longo da lei harmónica. A combinação deste novo efeito com o conhecido efeito Doppler indica a adição clássica da velocidade da luz, neste caso com a velocidade da sua fonte, o que viola o princípio da invariância da velocidade da luz da teoria da relatividade. Devido ao efeito detectado, a utilização de um interferómetro desenvolvido no radar passivo abre novas perspectivas para o seu desenvolvimento.
