Heliconias are one of the greatest riches of tropical flora due to their beauty and hardiness. They currently have promising prospects for landscaping and ornamentation, generating great economic importance. Their great natural variability and ornamental potential have aroused interest in exploiting these resources through pre-breeding and genetic improvement programmes, as well as studies in various other aspects. Considering their prominence and growing production and commercialisation, this book will present a broad knowledge of heliconia species in terms of their cytogenetic data; collections and germplasm banks for the conservation of variability, and their use in genetic improvement programmes.
