Die Landwirtschaft ist ein risikoreiches Geschäft. Landwirte und ihre Familien sind täglich einer Vielzahl von landwirtschaftlichen Pestiziden ausgesetzt. Viele Studien haben gezeigt, dass in Ländern der Dritten Welt sehr hohe Fälle von Pestizidvergiftungen und anderen pestizidbedingten Gesundheitsproblemen registriert wurden, die hauptsächlich auf unsachgemäße Handhabung, Verwendung und Lagerung zurückzuführen sind. Mehr als 75 Prozent der Pestizide werden direkt, von Hand oder in Anwesenheit der Landwirte ausgebracht. In den meisten Fällen erhalten die Landwirte keine angemessene Schulung. Pestizide sind möglicherweise auch nicht mit Gebrauchsanweisungen versehen, insbesondere nicht in der Muttersprache der Landwirte, was die Situation für Landwirte, die Analphabeten sind, noch verschärft. Ziel der Studie war es daher, das Wissen, die Einstellungen und Praktiken der Landwirte in Bezug auf Pestizide und die damit verbundenen selbst gemeldeten Toxizitätssymptome im Dorf Shubramant im Gouvernement Gizeh zu bewerten. Dieses Buch beleuchtet die beruflichen Gefahren für ägyptische Landwirte.
