Reis ist das wichtigste Getreide und die stabilste Nahrungspflanze Nepals und deckt etwa 50-80 % des Kalorienbedarfs der nepalesischen Bevölkerung. Er ist eine wichtige Getreideart, sowohl in Bezug auf die Anbaufläche und die Produktion als auch auf den Lebensunterhalt der Bevölkerung. Die meisten Menschen in Nepal leben in ländlichen Gebieten und sind mit Armut, Hunger und unzureichenden Niederschlägen konfrontiert, was zu Ernährungsunsicherheit führt. Aus diesem Grund wurde die Forschung durchgeführt, um die genetische Variabilität von Regenreis zu erforschen, um den besten Reisgenotyp für Regenreis zu bestimmen, der in gewissem Maße dazu beiträgt, den Nahrungsmittelbedarf zu decken und unregelmäßige Niederschlagsmuster in Nepal zu tolerieren.
