O sulfato de neomicina é um antibiótico de espetro alargado de aminoglicosídeos, agente antibacteriano utilizado no tratamento de infecções oculares. O diclofenac sódico é um agente AINE no tratamento do olho para reduzir o inchaço, a dor e a sensibilidade à luz após a cirurgia de catarata ou a cirurgia de refectividade da córnea. Foi formulado como gel ocular in situ formando gotas oculares utilizando polímeros como o carbopol940 como agente gelificante em combinação com conservantes adequados.Trata-se de uma nova abordagem para melhorar o tempo de residência da instilação ocular e aumentar a biodisponibilidade, a libertação prolongada e sustentada da droga.Também é importante a facilidade de administração proporcionada e a redução da frequência de administração, o que resulta numa melhor complacência e aceitação por parte do doente.
