D-Limonen ist eine Verbindung, die aus der Schale von Zitrusfrüchten wie Orangen, Limetten, Mandarinen usw. gewonnen werden kann. D-Limonen hat seinen Namen von der Zitrone. Es ist eines der am häufigsten in der Natur vorkommenden Terpene. Viele Gesundheitsdienstleister haben die potenziellen Vorteile von D-Limonen anerkannt und behaupten, dass es einige Gesundheitszustände wie Bronchitis, Krebs, Diabetes, Gallensteine usw. verhindern oder behandeln kann. Es wird auch in der Industrie zur Herstellung von Desinfektionsflüssigkeiten, Duftstoffen, Pestiziden usw. verwendet. In der vorliegenden Studie wird D-Limonen aus der Schale von Orangen extrahiert. Die Orangenschalen werden in Wasser gekocht, und das gewonnene Öl wird bei einer Temperatur von weniger als 100 °C, also weit unter seinem normalen Siedepunkt von 176 °C, in Wasserdampf destilliert. Diese Studie zur Extraktion von D-Limonen wurde mit verschiedenen Lösungsmitteln wie Methanol und destilliertem Wasser bei verschiedenen Temperaturen und Erhitzungszeiten durchgeführt, was zu unterschiedlichen Ergebnissen führte, aus denen das optimale Verfahren abgeleitet wurde. Das so hergestellte D-Limonen wurde durch Gaschromatographie und Massenspektroskopie charakterisiert.
