Il cancro al seno è il principale tumore delle donne nel mondo e in Tunisia. La sua incidenza è in continuo aumento.I fattori di rischio del cancro al seno sono molteplici. Vi sono fattori ormonali endogeni ed esogeni, fattori legati alla riproduzione, fattori demografici e mammari, fattori ambientali e fattori ereditari. Sebbene la maggior parte dei casi sia sporadica, si stima che il 5-10% dei casi abbia una componente ereditaria. Sono stati identificati due geni di suscettibilità principali, BRCA1 (Breast CAncer 1) e BRCA2 (Breast CAncer 2), che svolgono un ruolo chiave nel processo di riparazione degli errori del DNA. Mutazioni costituzionali deleterie in BRCA1 e BRCA2 sono associate a un rischio elevato di sviluppare il cancro al seno, il che rafforza l’importanza di identificare queste mutazioni nelle famiglie a rischio.
