Double Dutch is een verzameling anekdotes en herinneringen uit het leven van de Nederlandse auteur, geschreven in een levendige, humoristische en soms ironische stijl. Het boek volgt zijn reizen door Europa, Zuid-Amerika en Azië, vaak in de rol van adviseur, zeiler, piloot of gewone reiziger. De schrijver deelt verhalen over cultuurshocks, onverwachte ontmoetingen, politieke onrust, vreemde situaties en menselijke onvolkomenheden - vaak met een knipoog en een lesje erbij. Thema’s zoals overmoed, aanpassing, cultuurverschil en het onvoorspelbare leven komen terug. De titel verwijst naar het herschrijven van eerder gepubliceerde verhalen in het Engels - 'dubbel' dus, 'in Dutch'. Het is een boek vol verhalen, die ontstaan zijn uit een 'stoffig geheugen', geschreven als 'ingebeelde werkelijkheid' - maar met een kern van waarheid.
