Ethnozentrismus bestimmt das grundlegende soziale Gleichgewicht einer jeden Gesellschaft. Dies gilt unter anderem für die Hautfarbe, die Bildungstiefe und die Exposition. Der jüdische Holocaust und der ruandische Völkermord haben eines gemeinsam - den Einsatz von Ethnozentrismus als politisches Mittel. Der Klarheit halber ist eine ausführliche Darstellung des Völkermords in Ruanda notwendig, um die zugrunde liegenden Faktoren zu verstehen, die zu einem der schlimmsten Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit im 21. Jahrhundert geführt haben, und wie diese das Ausmaß der Intervention oder Reaktion der AU beeinflussen (Hintjens, 1999). Daher besteht das Hauptziel dieser Studie darin, die Intervention der AU in der Ruandakrise und ihre Erfolge in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten zu bewerten. Dies ist erforderlich, um die Bemühungen der AU zu bewerten, nachdem sie Maßnahmen zur rechtzeitigen Reaktion auf die Defizite der R2P während des Völkermords ergriffen hat.
