I polimeri sono responsabili di gran parte del degrado ambientale perché sono derivati dal petrolio, cioè sono fonti non rinnovabili e richiedono centinaia di anni per decomporsi. L’obiettivo generale di questo lavoro è produrre un biopolimero dall’amido di manioca, mentre gli obiettivi specifici sono estrarre l’amido dalla manioca, promuovere l’idrolisi acida dell’amido utilizzando acido cloridrico 0,1 M, sviluppare il biopolimero e analizzare il tempo di decomposizione di questo biopolimero. Per estrarre l’amido, durante il processo di estrazione sono state eseguite diverse operazioni unitarie, le principali delle quali sono state la frantumazione, la filtrazione, la decantazione e l’essiccazione dell’amido, che è stato poi pesato in 5 grammi e riscaldato con acqua, Durante questo riscaldamento sono stati aggiunti 6 ml di acido cloridrico 0,1 M per promuovere l’idrolisi acida (scomposizione) dell’amido e, affinché questo biopolimero acquisisca una forma più malleabile, è necessario aggiungere un agente plastificante, a cui sono stati aggiunti 4 ml di glicerolo (glicerina).
