Diese Arbeit ist das Ergebnis von Feldforschungen in der Stadt Dschang (Westkamerun) zum Thema 'Aufkommen des mobilen Internets und die Problematik der Rentabilität von Internetcafés'. Ausgehend von einer Umfrage unter zufällig ausgewählten Akteuren ergab sich, dass das Aufkommen der Mobiltelefonie mit ihren zahlreichen neuen Funktionen und die Nutzung des Internets das Leben der Verbraucher stark revolutioniert haben. Diese neue Kommunikationstechnologie für den persönlichen und unabhängigen Gebrauch verringert die Rentabilität von Internetcafés, die lediglich ein günstiger Ort sind, um kostengünstig zu kopieren (15 bis 25 FCFA/Kopie). Es sei darauf hingewiesen, dass mit dem Erfolg des Mobiltelefons in Kamerun, wo es etwa 20 Millionen aktive Telefone für eine Bevölkerung von 25 Millionen Einwohnern gibt, nun das mobile Internet boomt.
