La cintura orogenica dell’Himalaya, formatasi in seguito a processi tettonici di collisione, mostra abbondanti prove di attività neotettonica, tettonica attiva e il verificarsi di terremoti storici. La sua zona di deformazione frontale è caratterizzata, in alcuni segmenti, da valli longitudinali intermontane (duns). Questi segmenti frontali dell’Himalaya sono caratterizzati dalla presenza di fronti montuosi multipli (Kothyari, G., 2010; Lee, C. S L, 2010). L’obiettivo principale è quello di effettuare un’analisi topografica utilizzando dati DEM e il calcolo di indici geomorfici per decifrare la deformazione tettonica, preparare una mappa geomorfica dell’area di studio e l’analisi dei processi di superficie utilizzando dati di telerilevamento, mappare i parametri della forma del canale come il profilo longitudinale, l’ipsometria, l’indice di gradiente del torrente e l’analisi dei processi fluviali in risposta alla deformazione tettonica e infine integrare tutti i dati per modellare la risposta geomorfica del bacino del fiume Markanda alla deformazione tettonica.
