O objetivo do presente estudo é avaliar o efeito da ajuda pública ao desenvolvimento económico na RCA durante o período 1990-2017. Começámos por destacar o efeito da ajuda pública ao desenvolvimento no crescimento económico da RCA utilizando um modelo ARDL. Em seguida, determinámos o efeito da ajuda pública ao desenvolvimento na desigualdade na RCA utilizando um modelo vetorial autoregressivo de segunda ordem. Os resultados obtidos a partir dos dados do Banco Mundial e da SWIID sugerem que a ajuda pública ao desenvolvimento contribui para o crescimento económico da RCA a longo prazo. Contudo, contribui para agravar as desigualdades. Por conseguinte, estas conclusões convidam as autoridades a combinar os programas de ajuda com verdadeiras políticas de redistribuição, nomeadamente o investimento em serviços sociais como a educação e a saúde. Devem também dar especial ênfase à qualidade institucional, incluindo a luta contra a corrupção.
