Entretanto, a descarga da água de produção pode poluir as águas superficiais e subterrâneas e o solo. Devido ao aumento do volume de resíduos em todo o mundo na década atual, o resultado e o efeito da descarga de água produzida no ambiente tornaram-se ultimamente uma preocupação ambiental significativa. A água produzida é convencionalmente tratada através de métodos físicos, químicos e biológicos diferentes.
