Wolves of Freedom, a novel in two parts, chronicles the innocent perspectives of two young boys navigating their way within a culture and a force beyond their natural, youthful naivete, beyond their untarnished comprehensions. This is a tale of two boys born on the same day, on the same plantation, but into two starkly different worlds, one boy a son of a plantation slaver, the other born a slave. In Part One: Distant Thunder, these boys, as diverse in their cultures and backgrounds as any two could be in their day, bound together by their same birthdate, their mutual curiosities, and an overwhelming sense of tenacity and a desire to understand and survive in an increasingly hostile world, like wolves, they learn together the great, complex, and harsh history that preceded them, the history that set the stage for the country’s violent evolution, such history transforming the nation into the Founders’ vision of 'a more perfect Union', the history which is also on the cusp of unraveling the country, perhaps destroying it. Part Two: Raging Storm follows these boys into the cataclysmic eruption of civil war and the roles they assume in defense and support of the causes of Union and the eradication of slavery. The novel ventures into the complexities and the rippling bitterness of Reconstruction and reconciliation, issues that haunt Americans to this day.

Maybe some are well-written; maybe n...
