Robin Smith
The march of Major General James Yule’s brigade from Dundee to Ladysmith between 23 and 26 October 1899 is an incident which has not yet been written about. It deserves praiseworthy comment for the actions of the participants under very difficult circumstances. In preparing the book, military history researcher Robin Smith did a lot of field work in respect of this incident including an organised big walk down van Tonder’s Nek Pass which involved the community.
