Der Oppositionsaktivist Alexej Nawalny wurde am 20. August ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert, nachdem ein Flugzeug, das von Tomsk nach Moskau flog, in Omsk notlanden musste. Der Blogger wurde an Bord krank. Die Fluggesellschaft S7 sagte, dass Navalny während des Fluges nichts gegessen oder getrunken habe. Als er im Krankenhaus ankam, schlossen ihn die Ärzte an ein Beatmungsgerät an. Später rutschte er ins Koma. Sein Zustand in Omsk ist stabil, aber er ist an ein Beatmungsgerät angeschlossen. Die Ursache von Navalnys Zustand ist eine Stoffwechselstörung. Oxybutyrate und Barbiturate wurden im Blut nicht nachgewiesen. Die Diagnose des Bloggers wurde von Ärzten in Omsk mitgeteilt. Navalny wurde in das Notfallkrankenhaus gebracht. Einigen Berichten zufolge könnte der Blogger am Vortag Alkohol konsumiert haben, die Anzeichen einer Vergiftung zeigten sich bei Nawalnys Tests. Später flog ein Flugzeug aus Deutschland für Navalny und brachte ihn nach Deutschland. Der Blogger wurde in einer Klinik in Berlin aufgenommen.
