R. James, publicada em 1925. Montague Rhodes James (1862-1936) foi um estudioso medievalista e Reitor do King s College, em Cambridge, Reino Unido. Ele escreveu muitas de suas histórias de fantasmas para serem lidas em voz alta na longa tradição de contos assustadores da véspera de Natal. Suas histórias muitas vezes usam cenários rurais, com um protagonista quieto e erudito se envolvendo nas atividades de forças sobrenaturais.
