RAJAPRIAN K
The layered mafic-ultramafic intrusion of the Archaean high grade Bhavani complex contains several discontinuous E-W trending mafic-ultramafic bodies mainly consisting of gabbro, meta-gabbro, pyroxenite and amphibolite. The bulk composition indicates that the source of magma is tholeiitic and perhaps represents a MORB or island arc setting. Chromite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, chalcopyrite and pentlandite occur as irregular disseminations, and are associated with pyroxene, hornblende, magnetite, chlorite, illmenite and sometimes quartz.
