A história do Município de Timburi não tem início em 1948, quando sua emancipação política-administrativa foi concretizada. A história começou em meados do século XIX, com a colonização das terras à margem esquerda do Rio Itararé. Desde este episódio, toda a região começou a prosperar e crescer com a cultura do café, tornando-se a sua principal economia e, consequentemente, surgiram as grandes propriedades rurais históricas. Timburi tornou-se o principal e o próspero distrito da Comarca de Piraju e recebeu grandes investimentos para melhorar a sua infraestrutura. No passado, o distrito abrigou imigrantes, vindos de tão longe e de várias partes do mundo. Os habitantes do distrito presenciaram a Revolução Constitucionalista de 1932 e seis bravos combatentes participaram dos campos de batalha na Segunda Guerra Mundial. Hoje, Timburi é conhecido mundialmente pelos nossos artistas plásticos, jogadores de futebol, jornalistas e outras personalidades, descendente de muitos daqueles imigrantes acolhidos nesta terra. Conhecido pelo seu cognome “Janela do Poente”, slogan surgido na Festa da Pinga, evento que promoveu o turismo desde a sua primeira edição, e atualmente é um Município de Interesse Turístico, atraindo multidões de turistas dos quatros cantos do Brasil e do mundo.
