Selbst immer mehr anhäufende Erkenntnisse in den Naturwissenschaften können das Geheimnis von Leben und Tod nicht lüften. Die medizinische Forschung hat zwar alte Lebensbedrohungen ungefährlich gemacht, kann das Leben um einige Tage und Monate verlängern, das Sterben verkürzen und verzögern, aber das Sterben nicht völlig verhindern. Leben und Tod sind eine unzertrennbare Symbiose. Der Tod ist in das Leben mit einprogrammiert. Bis heute ist der Mensch nicht Herr über den Tod. Er hat nur die Fähigkeit das Leben zu beenden, sich selbst und andere zu töten. Dies konnte der Mensch im Laufe der Geschichte mehrfach unter Beweis stellen, ob im Krieg, als Strafe oder aus Heimtücke.Daraus ergibt sich folgende ethische Frage: Darf man das Leben eines anderen Menschen verkürzen?
