 Mr. Gipson’s class is hosting STEM Night at the elementary school. STEM stands forscience, technology, engineering and mathematics. The children’s ethnicities are from Caucasian andEuropean, African American, Jamaican, Nigerian, Asian, Indian, Vietnamese, and a few childrenare multiracial such as a student who comes from a family of Louisiana Creole heritage andanother who is Black and Chinese.Mr. Gipson is a fun, funny, and phenomenal African American elementary school teacherwho encourages his class to participate in discussions and ensures that everyone feels that theycan express themselves and has a voice that will be heard. Throughout this book, each studentstells what he or she likes, and which STEM career they would like to have.Mr. Gipson begins by introducing himself and telling everyone what the students andprofessionals will be doing. The book takes place in the school auditorium.
