I turned the 6-page memorandum which I presented to the math research team at Carnegie Mellon University into two books. The first book which is already published is titled 'ONE The Most Powerful Number' which is a college textbook written to help students studying to become an elementary arithmetic teacher or a secondary mathematics teacher, learn how to use concepts in arithmetic and mathematics and then to then develop rules and procedures to solve a wide variety of arithmetic and mathematics problems. The ultimate goal must be to have students 'Learn and Remember' concepts, rules, and procedures which should be learned in arithmetic and then apply the same rules and procedures to solve problems in algebra and higher-level math classes.Rules and procedures which are learned in arithmetic are the foundation for solving higher-level math problems in algebra, precalculus, calculus, etc. Without arithmetic rules and procedures, it would be impossible to solve algebra or high-level math problems.The second book is titled 'The Most Powerful Number 1' is a professional development book for experienced elementary arithmetic teachers and secondary mathematics teachers.The topics in the books are very similar but the second book is written with the belief that experienced teachers have already developed some teaching techniques which work for them, but they may find some ideas which they may want to use after reading the book.Every teacher who wants to be the best, is always looking for a slightly better way to explain the solutions to a problem. That is the goal of the second book, 'The Most Powerful Number 1'.
