The Hound of the Baskervilles is a classic detective novel written by Arthur Conan Doyle. It is the third novel featuring the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his trusted companion Dr. John Watson. The story is set in the late 19th century and is set in the moors of Dartmoor in Devon, England. The novel begins with the death of Sir Charles Baskerville, a wealthy landowner who is found dead on the moors near his home. The locals believe that his death was caused by a legendary ghostly hound that has haunted the Baskerville family for generations. Dr. Mortimer, a friend of the Baskerville family, seeks the help of Sherlock Holmes to investigate the mysterious death and protect Sir Charles’ heir, Sir Henry Baskerville.Holmes sends Watson to investigate the case in Dartmoor while he remains in London working on another case. Watson soon discovers that there are many suspects, including the mysterious Barrymore family who work as servants at the Baskerville estate. He also encounters the beautiful and enigmatic Miss Stapleton who lives nearby and seems to have a connection to the case.As Watson delves deeper into the case, he uncovers a web of deceit and conspiracy that leads him to believe that the hound may not be a supernatural creature after all. With the help of Holmes, Watson races against time to solve the case and protect Sir Henry from the same fate as Sir Charles. The Hound of the Baskervilles is a thrilling and suspenseful novel that has become a classic of detective fiction. It is a must-read for fans of Sherlock Holmes and anyone who enjoys a good mystery.I confess at these words a shudder passed through me. There was a thrill in the doctor’s voice which showed that he was himself deeply moved by that which he told us. Holmes leaned forward in his excitement and his eyes had the hard, dry glitter which shot from them when he was keenly interested. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Doyle, unsuccessful in his medical practice, in need of money and a more satisfying career, had already sold a number of magazine stories when he wrote the novella, 'A Study in Scarlet,' the first Sherlock Holmes story, which, after many rejections, was published in Beeton’s Christmas Annual for 1887. Doyle got twenty-five pounds for all rights to the story. He never received a...
