Alex Wilder, a 15-year-old star athlete and student at Millcreek High School, feels trapped in a mundane life. Yearning for recognition and excitement, he becomes intrigued by a crew of petty criminals led by Chris Mork, a charismatic 17-year-old. Drawn in by the allure of power and respect, Alex begins to distance himself from his girlfriend Stacie and his loyal best friend William. Despite initial repulsion, he joins the crew in their minor acts of vandalism and theft, rationalizing it as harmless fun. His involvement escalates as he seeks the thrill of his new life, causing friction with his family, especially his father, a police officer who sees the warning signs. Stacie and William voice their concerns, but Alex is convinced he is in control and dismisses their worries. As the crew’s activities intensify to shoplifting and petty drug deals, Alex finds himself in deeper than he intended. William, who initially followed Alex into the crew, becomes increasingly uncomfortable with the violence and danger. He wants out, but Alex, fearing the loss of his newfound status, is unwilling to leave. The divide between them grows, and after a heated argument with his father, Alex decides to run away. Manipulated by Chris, he convinces William to join him, and they take refuge in an abandoned house set for demolition. Life in the squalid house exposes the grim reality of their situation. Alex starts using meth, becoming more withdrawn and aggressive, while William becomes disillusioned with the life they have chosen. The tension between the friends and Chris escalates, with Chris viewing William as a liability. Chris plans a more serious crime-boosting a car-and when William refuses to participate, the situation explodes. In a fit of rage, Chris shoots and kills William, leaving Alex in shock. Confronted with the brutal reality of his choices, Alex is consumed by guilt and grief. The police are called, and Chris is arrested, but Alex is left to face the devastating consequences of his actions. During the police interview, Alex realizes the truth in his father’s warnings and feels responsible for his best friend’s death. Haunted by guilt, he withdraws from everyone, including Stacie, who is heartbroken by the path he has taken. Alex sinks into despair, believing he has destroyed his relationships and disappointed those who cared about him.
