In the mid-1990s British and Irish backpackers invade Bondi. They have come for a good time and find work on building sites, in bars and strip joints. Many are regulars at the Regent Hotel, but their enjoyment is interrupted when one of their own, a gay Liverpudlian, is found dead down on Bondi Beach. As Jim Cameron knows the dead man he becomes involved in the investigation and once again joins forces with New Zealander, Detective Alan Stone. Jim engages the help of a young teacher who is on exchange from London and now teaching at St Cuthbert’s. Julian Butterworth becomes a regular at the Regent hoping to find out why or how Mark Dunlop died. In the process Julian soon discovers the seedy side of Bondi and Kings Cross, the drug dealing, organised crime and in the process falls for the Irish stripper, Siobhan. With the help of regulars at the Regent, Julian, Jim and Stone embark on solving the mystery of the bodies down at Bondi.
