Taken from Article 1 of this publication:THE TELESCOPIC SIGHT - ITS USE AND ADVANTAGESAmong the practical benefits gained by the use of the telescope are that the objects to be seen are more clearly presented to the view by the magnifying power of the lenses used. Its superiority, like other optical instruments, is most apparent at long ranges when the object cannot be distinctly discernible by the naked eye; no sight ever invented in gunnery affords more pleasure, satisfaction and accuracy, either for hunting game, target practice or ’rebel shooting’, than the ’telescopic’. The more it is used and understood, the more it will be appreciated and come into general practice.DEMONSTRATINGHOW TO SIGHT A GUN - HOW TO ASCERTAIN THE FALL OF THE BALL FOR ALL DISTANCES - HOW TO GET ELEVATION WITHOUT CHANGE OF SIGHT - HOW TO MEASURE DISTANCES BY THE TELESCOPEDEFININGCertain rules by which to strike the object every shot, including other useful information for the instruction of the gunner.
