Dans cet ouvrage, diverses technologies de valorisation énergétique des déchets ont été évaluées quant à leur aptitude à valoriser les déchets de bananes et à produire de l’énergie pour l’industrie de transformation de la banane. Les technologies potentielles étudiées ont été regroupées en trois catégories : Thermique (combustion directe et incinération) ; thermochimique (torréfaction, traitement au plasma, gazéification et pyrolyse) et biochimique (compostage, fermentation de l’éthanol et digestion anaérobie). Cependant, en raison de la teneur élevée en humidité des déchets de bananes, l’application directe des technologies thermiques ou thermochimiques de valorisation énergétique des déchets est difficile. Bien que la gazéification à l’eau supercritique ne nécessite pas le séchage de la matière première et puisse être une technologie thermochimique prometteuse pour la gazification de la biomasse humide telle que les déchets de bananes, il s’agit d’une technologie coûteuse qui a peu de chances d’être adoptée par les pays peu développés. Les technologies de conversion biochimique sont plus respectueuses de l’environnement et plus appropriées pour les déchets de biomasse à forte teneur en eau tels que les déchets de banane. En outre, les avantages et les inconvénients de chaque technologie ont été mis en évidence.
