Teaching Your Child to Read Using Phonics walks you step-by-step through: Immersing your young readers with learning the relationships between the letters of written language and the sounds of spoken word Understanding of predictable relationships between written letters and spoken language Readying your learner for a lifetime of reading, writing, learning, and connecting with our global community. At the conclusion of this process, your learner will: Be on his/her way to becoming a literate member of society Have mastered the fundamentals of reading through phonics Have learned that the printed word has meaning Use multiple sources of information (text meaning, language structure, visual), and a variety of strategies to problem solve while reading Know a large core of sight words automatically Begin to read a greater variety of longer and more complex passages     Pacing: the lessons incorporated in this manual were designed for the average child. Some lessons may be very easy for your child and allow you to move at a faster pace than allotted in this guide. Other lessons may be more difficult and require you to spend additional time on a subject. How quickly your child learns to read is not important. What is essential is proficiency in each of the topics. Spend whatever time is necessary to ensure your child understands the fundamentals of reading.    The material in this book covers content traditionally taught in grades kindergarten, first grade, second grade.
