Da die Tea Party eine überwiegend aus weißen Christen bestehende rechtskonservative Graswurzelbewegung ist, übt sie insbesondere einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf die republikanische Partei aus. Die wichtigsten Werte der Tea Party sind individuelle Freiheit, 'limited government' sowie freies Unternehmertum. Die heiße Materie der 'social issues' (Abtreibung, Homosexuellenehe etc) wird von der Tea Party nicht angetastet. Dennoch ist es unübersehbar, dass die meisten Anhänger der Tea Party Evangelikale sind, die gleichzeitig der mächtigen Christian Right zugeordnet werden können. Der Autor untersucht die Verbindung der Tea Party mit den Evangelikalen bzw der Christian Right. Inwieweit sind die Werte der Tea Party mit jenen der evangelikalen Christen kompatibel? Ist die Tea Party gar die neue Christian Right? Können die Republikaner eine Präsidentschaftswahl überhaupt noch ohne die massive Unterstützung der Tea Party und der Evangelikalen gewinnen?
