Earl and Damo are getting too old. Too old to be working as nightclub doormen fighting off young drunks. Too old to be working on the mines or driving a concrete truck. They want the easy life. A surf, a beer, watching the footy. The problem is that retirement is a long way off and they cannot come up with a scheme to make enough money to fund the lifestyle they crave. A chance meeting with a friend who has recently come back from a stint at His Majesty’s pleasure proposes a solution. In prison he discovered an opportunity to acquire enough money to live the ’life.’ Surely it has got to be illegal? But their friend convinces them that this is not necessarily the case. From a moral philosophy perspective it is arguably a grey area, just ask the 18th century German philosopher Immanuel Kant. So starts an adventure which takes them from Sydney to Uganda in search of their dream.

The comparisons embrace dif...

The link between the first two terms (scale and distance) and the latter two (identification and doubling) is implicit in the title, and its unfolding constitutes th...
