Die vorliegende Arbeit ist eine umfassende und aktuelle Studie über die in indischen Gewässern am weitesten verbreiteten Penaeidae-Garnelen. Die Familie Penaeidae umfasst 20 Gattungen und 79 Arten aus indischen Gewässern, wobei in der vorliegenden Studie nur 24 Arten gefunden wurden, die in der gesamten indischen Küstenlinie am weitesten verbreitet sind. Diese 24 Arten gehören zu 9 Gattungen der Familie Penaeidae. Die Gattungen Penaeus, Metapenaeus und Metapenaeopsis sind die kommerziell wichtigsten Arten unter den in indischen Gewässern vorkommenden Penaeus-Garnelen. Im vorliegenden Buch werden alle Gattungen und Arten diagnostiziert und ein geeigneter Schlüssel zur Identifizierung der einzelnen Gattungen und Arten der Familie Penaeoidae bereitgestellt. Schließlich wurde für jedes Zitat im Text ein umfassendes Literaturverzeichnis erstellt.
