State of the Union Addresses is a collection of speeches delivered by William H. Taft, the 27th President of the United States, to the United States Congress. The book contains all of Taft’s annual messages to Congress during his presidency, from 1909 to 1913. In these speeches, Taft addresses a wide range of issues, including economic policy, foreign relations, and domestic affairs. He discusses his administration’s accomplishments, challenges, and goals for the future. The book provides a unique insight into the political and social landscape of the early 20th century, as well as the leadership style of one of America’s most notable presidents. It is a valuable resource for historians, political scientists, and anyone interested in American history and politics. These cases of restraint of trade that the court excepted from the operation of the statute were instances which, at common law, would have been called reasonable. In the Standard Oil and Tobacco cases, therefore, the court merely adopted the tests of the common law, and in defining exceptions to the literal application of the statute, only substituted for the test of being incidental or indirect, that of being reasonable, and this, without varying in the slightest the actual scope and effect of the statute. In other words, all the cases under the statute which have now been decided would have been decided the same way if the court had originally accepted in its construction the rule at common law. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world’s literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
