Die Anwendung von Sonnencreme ist wichtig, um unsere Haut vor negativen Auswirkungen der Sonnenstrahlen zu schützen. Allerdings sind bestimmte UV-Filtersubstanzen sowohl mit gesundheitlichen Risiken als auch mit schädlichen Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt verbunden. Einige UV-Filtersubstanzen werden in unseren Körper aufgenommen und können danach beispielsweise als sogenannte endokrine Disruptoren unseren Hormonstoffwechsel stören. Außerdem stellen sie eine Umweltbelastung dar und können  beispielsweise das Korallensterben begünstigen und das maritime Leben darüber hinaus vielfältig schädigen.
