Over the past few decades, there has been a growing interest, especially in third world countries, in converting urban areas to slum free cities. To promote slum free city, the concept of ’Resettlement colonies’ have emerged as a good choice. But it has been observed that an individual residing in resettlement colonies may suffer from discomfort and distress due to imbalance in their physical, psychological, social, and behavioral elements of lives that are contributory to their performance and habits. Hence the need is to plan and develop any specific slum rehabilitation project after analyzing every aspect of social acceptability. This book makes a discrete effort to study all possible relevant literature on global initiatives, national initiatives, affordable housing, slum resettlement efforts in India and abroad to understand the social acceptability of affordable housing in existing resettlement colonies. Remedial actions for future retrofitting of resettlement colonies in considerations were proposed at the end.
