Sobre Latinoamérica recoge las pasiones americanas de Miguel de Unamuno. Para hablar de las peculiaridades del Nuevo mundo, Unamuno inventó la palabra americanidad, este libro recoge sus principales reflexiones sobre el tema.Leyendo sus artículos publicados en diferentes periódicos y revistas latinoamericanos, sus cartas y reflexiones es evidente que Unamuno tenía un gran interés por los temas de la América hispánica.Entre 1901 y 1906, Unamuno trabajó en el periódico La Lectura (Madrid) como redactor de la sección titulada De literatura hispanoamericana. Esa actividad lo puso en contacto con las obras literarias e históricas de Hispanoamérica.También, y gracias a la mediación de Rubén Darío, Unamuno había empezado a colaborar en La Nación (Buenos Aires). Entre 1899 y 1935 envió cientos de artículos y ensayos a este y a otros periódicos y revistas de Latinoamérica.Sin embargo, el vínculo más importante de Unamuno con Hispanoamérica fue a raíz de su lectura de las obras literarias e históricas de este continente. Además de su correspondencia y sus contactos y amigos personales,Es por esta razón que el escritor se halla en constante búsqueda de los antecedentes españoles de sus obras favoritas hispanoamericanas, tales como Martín Fierro.
