I wrote this book because:I woke up singing SKID-A-MA-RINK-A-DINK-SKID-A-MA-RINK-A-DOO. The light bulb went off in my brain as an inspiration to do so. I truly believe four year old children have the credibility to see how their world has become not for the better at this time. I have observed singing and signing brings joy into their lives. When I taught pre-school children I also was an Educational Co-ordinator. I had music workshops for all the day care centers. In my classroom music was a round the clock on a daily basis. Music was available in all the learning centers. In the book center they were using record stories. The art area had lots of pictures of children singing as to create their own pictures. In the music area children would play music tapes to dance. They also dressed up in the dramatic play area and dressed up and sang and dance. You could hear children singing their favorite songs at any time. One example of how Music can help children is one year I had a boy in my classroom who could not speak English. I sang and played musical instruments and discovered he enjoyed music and used jesters to talk to me. One day, after three months had passed, we were in circle time, and he began to sing our ’Hello’ song. Hello, hello, hello, how are you? I was stunned and began to cry. Luckily, my kids knew those were tears of joy!
