A gestão de algumas formas refratárias e corticoresistentes de PTI coloca frequentemente um problema terapêutico. O advento de novas alternativas terapêuticas, nomeadamente a bioterapia, tem oferecido novas oportunidades de remissão nestes pacientes. O Rituximab é a bioterapia de eleição nestas situações. Estudámos as indicações de rituximab, bem como a resposta terapêutica em doentes com ITP crónico refractário. Através da nossa experiência e de uma revisão da literatura, tentaremos recordar a fisiopatologia, as características clínicas e biológicas do ITP, estudar as indicações e a utilização de rituximab no ITP e informar sobre as outras bioterapias utilizadas no ITP e as suas indicações
