Un progetto di costruzione è comunemente riconosciuto come un progetto di successo quando lo scopo del progetto viene raggiunto in termini di obiettivi predeterminati di completamento del progetto in tempo, entro il budget e secondo gli standard di qualità richiesti. I ritardi nel completamento di un progetto di costruzione possono rappresentare un grave problema per i soggetti interessati. Questi ritardi portano a costose controversie e a relazioni negative tra i partecipanti al progetto. I progetti di ingegneria civile possono subire ritardi per molte ragioni. Le ragioni sono legate a vari tipi di incertezze associate alle attività durante il processo di costruzione o durante le fasi di pianificazione e progettazione. Pertanto, è stata condotta un’indagine completa per identificare i fattori critici che causano ritardi nei progetti di costruzione dello Sri Lanka. Dallo studio approfondito della letteratura, sono state identificate 58 cause di ritardo ed è stata condotta un’indagine tramite questionario su 107 progetti di costruzione selezionati nello Sri Lanka. I risultati dimostrano che i ritardi nei progetti edilizi dello Sri Lanka sono principalmente imputabili alla manodopera. Questo studio esplora e fornisce raccomandazioni per ridurre l’impatto dei ritardi sui progetti di ingegneria civile in Sri Lanka.
