La pieloplastica laparoscopica nei bambini è stata eseguita per la prima volta nel 1995 da Peters et al. Il trattamento della giunzione pieloureterale in laparoscopia è stato possibile in tutti i 6 bambini. Il trattamento consisteva nella pieloplastica in 3 casi, nella pieloplastica con sganciamento del vaso polare in un caso e nella trasposizione del vaso polare inferiore in 2 casi. Il tempo medio di intervento è stato di 151 minuti per la pieloplastica e di 102,5 minuti per la trasposizione vascolare. La degenza media è stata di 1,4 giorni (1-2 giorni). Il monitoraggio ecografico post-operatorio ha mostrato una riduzione della dilatazione pielo-caliceale in 4 pazienti e un aspetto stabile in altri due. La cura laparoscopica dell’UPJ è possibile con risultati paragonabili a quelli della cura convenzionale. L’approccio laparoscopico offre un eccellente spazio di lavoro e migliora la qualità dell’esposizione per la dissezione della UPJ. Questa procedura è fattibile nei bambini di età inferiore ai 6 mesi.
